Five Non-Traditional Home and Online Businesses
Want to work from home? Starting a home or online business has become more and more popular, especially amongst mothers with young children. High childcare costs make working from home the ideal solution. Historically, working from home has often meant direct selling or doing highly technical stuff on the internet. No longer. Here are five ideas for less traditional online businesses that somebody considering working from home can think about.
1. Virtual assistants. Many companies are looking for ways to save money. Outsourcing secretarial work to a virtual assistant is becoming more and more common. If you were a secretary before, you can hire yourself out to do work by the hour or by the task.
2. Candle making. Scented candles are big business right now, and people like hand made ones. Making candles is considered one of the best home crafts you can do to make money. Soap works well too.
3. Genealogist or family tree researcher. If you’re good at finding things out, this one is for you. Plenty of busy people will pay somebody to help them find out what their ancestors were up there.
4. Image or beauty consulting. Not everyone wants to go to a salon…an image consultant can go to somebody’s home and help them match colors, choose makeup or decide on the best new hair cut.
5. Online tutor. Find something you’re good at that can be taught over the internet and then advertise it. Help with written English or math is a good one, but you might also tutor in history, geography or theoretical science.
